Smartphone Addiction in the Sopus Database: An Appraisal of the Literature with Scientific Mapping

Abstract

People are becoming increasingly reliant on technology, particularly smartphones, as our society shifts toward one centered on it. Addiction to smartphone is a growing problem in all age groups, particularly among young adolescents. The study's goal is to find scientific literature on smartphone addiction and to show how publications in this field are designed. Bibliometric methodology, combined with the scientific mapping technique, were used in this investigation. Different procedures related to the quantification, scrutiny, assessment, and estimation of scientific documents were carried out. 676 valid articles were retrieved from Scopus Database between 2010 to 2021 related to excessive use of smartphone. We initiate 676 distinct articles. Medicine was the furthermost studied area followed by psychology which contributed to 47.93% and 35.36% total number of publications respectively. The findings also discovered that there was a clear interest among Asian countries in studying problems related to smartphone addiction. The findings revealed that the evolution in the study of smartphone addiction is constant and continuous, with articles in English being the most used medium for researchers to present their findings. The result of this study might contribute to the body of knowledge on delivering comprehensive trend analysis of the studies related to smartphone addiction, which was published in the Scopus Database from the year 2010 to 2021.
