Abstract

Helicobactor pylori is a main contributor in the increase of gastric problems. Many antibiotic regimens are available for the treatment but none of them could achieve the peak of eradication. In this study the antibiogram of the 70 isolates of H. pylori which were isolated from the biopsy samles of the patients which involved in gastric diseases and treated at Bolan Medical Complex Quetta. All 70 isolates were subjected to 5 common antimicrobial agents; Metronidazole, Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, Ciprofloxacin and Tetracycline by disk diffusion method. Majority of the isolates showed resistance to Metronidazole 92% while the isolates showed 28.57 % resistance to Clarithromycin, and the other three antibiotics exhibited the various resistant respectively Tetracycline 20.83%, Amoxicillin 18.57% and Ciprofloxacin 11.42%. It is concluded from the findings of this study that antibiotic Ciprofloxacin showed low resistance and then respectively Amoxicillin, Tetracycline and Clarithromycin, the antibiotic Mertronidazole showed high level of resistance rate because of the drug used in the treatment of other infectious disease. Such a high frequency of resistance to the choice of antibiotics for the control and eradication of H.pylori stress on the need of discovery of new antibacterial agents against this pathogen.
