Abstract

Social-emotional learning is importance for students to deal with the challenges in life. This study aimed to develop a SELI to enhance SEC. The different phases of the ADDIE Instructional Model in the SELI and the findings of the effectiveness of SELI were discussed. This research design adopts the quantitative method. A total of 68 primary school students participated in this study. The DESSA was used to assess student SEC before and after the intervention. The effects of the SELI on SEC was analysed employing the paired samples t-test (within the experimental and control groups) and independent samples t-test (between experimental and control groups) in a pre-test and post-test. Null hypotheses were rejected and significant differences were found. The findings showed the ten-week SELI was effective in enhancing students’ SEC. Therefore, SEL program should be focused on students and on teachers to enhance student social-emotional learning. The results suggest that the intervention led to significant improvement of students’ SEC in the experimental group. Therefore, the SELI program is effective towards enhancing students’ SEC. These findings also offer the opportunity for other schools to develop SEC through the SELI and implementation of the program.
