Current madrasas however, do not exhibit contemporary and locally-minded design features in reference to the regional aspects such as the local social cultural context. The madrasa is built as a separate entity from the local communal context. The objective of this paper is to study on two traditional madrasas that uses different approaches in architectural design as an educational institution as well as a communal center for the Islamic society using semiotic approach. Findings indicate that factors like location and placement, size and scale, facade and structure, access and circulation as well as hierarchy and spatial function contributed to the development of madrasa as a sustainable communal center. The establishment of these referential design guidelines are of benefit to future designers, builders, developer and related authority to build a better sustainable communal madrasa type in the future.
2018-12-03T02:54:06+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## Leadership practices for Professional assistance of teachers in secondary schools 2018-12-03T03:30:04+00:00 Fakhra Aziz Uzma Quraishi Moafia Nader
The present study aimed to explore the leadership practices for professional assistance of secondary school teachers. It was assumed that leadership active role in various types of teachers’ professional assistance can enhance their job performance which in turn promotes quality in teaching and learning process. A Study of Attitudes 2018-12-03T03:30:05+00:00 Adolf Richardo Bagus Setiadi
Research Highlights

Results of the study indicated that the students showed positive attitudes towards Microsoft PowerPoint’s influence on their learning in English classroom and also their English instructors’ performance in the classroom. Also, no significant difference found between male and female students in terms of their attitude towards both aspects.

___________________________________________________________________________

Research Objectives

The aim of this research is to find out the attitudes of Indonesian university students towards Microsoft PowerPoint’s influence on their learning in English classroom and their instructors’ performance in English classroom. The difference between male and female students on that degree will also be observed.

Methodology

The method used to gather the data used in the research was the survey method. The questionnaire used was a modified version of the questionnaire used in Yilmazel-Sahin’s (2007) research. The participants of the research were students of Universitas Satya Negara Indonesia. After the data was gathered, it was then analysed using descriptive statistics (to find the students’ attitudes) and Mann-Whitney U test (to determine whether statistically significant differences existed between the two groups). This type of test was chosen due to its ability to determine differences between two groups (Nachar, 2008). To avoid the Type I error in the Mann-Whitney U test, Bonferroni correction was applied (Napierala, 2012).

Results

The results of the data analysis showed that the students showed positive attitudes towards Microsoft PowerPoint’s influence on their learning in English. They moderately agreed that PowerPoint gives positive influence on their learning. The results were consistent with results from previous research (Yilmazel-Sahin, 2007), which showed that students generally had positive attitudes regarding PowerPoint’s influence on their learning. Another result showed was that students showed positive attitudes towards Microsoft PowerPoint’s influence on moderately agreed that PowerPoint helped their English instructors become better prepared and more organised, while they mostly agreed that PowerPoint helped increase the variation in the material delivered by their instructors. The results match the results from Yilmazel-Sahin’s (2007) and Nouri and Shahid’s (2005) research.

The results of Mann-Whitney U test showed that there was no significant difference between male and female students in terms of their attitudes towards Microsoft PowerPoint’s influence on both their learning in English classroom and their instructors’ performance in English classroom. This matches the results of research conducted by Kahraman, Çevik and Kodan (2011) which showed no significant difference between male and female participants regarding their attitudes towards PowerPoint usage in classes.

Findings

Students showed positive attitudes towards Microsoft PowerPoint’s influence on both their learning in the English classroom and their instructors’ performance in English classroom. No significant difference observed between male and female in terms of their attitudes towards both aspects.
2018-12-03T02:53:11+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## Iconic Note as Principle of Motivation in Tonni Morrison's Sula 2018-12-03T03:30:05+00:00 Mehdi Abbass Mohsin Mohammad Muzhafar Bin Idrus
The current study proposes to give an insight about iconic note as a concept of motivation in literary language applied on one of the prominent novels in African- American literature which is Morrison's Sula. Iconic property is considered as one of the prominent principles in motivation of language in which there is a similarity between form and concept. The study of the iconic note in literary works has become significant after the emergence of modernist in arts and literature whereas prior to that, Iconic note as a source of motivation was considered as salient characteristic of primitive language and poetic language only. The problem of the study will explain how Morrison's text constructed to decline from the concept of arbitrariness and to meet the concept of motivation. By achieving the objective of the research, the study will focus on two important tropes which are metaphor and metonymy and how they co-occur in literary text to serve as ingredients of iconic perspective of motivated language.
2018-12-03T02:51:33+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## Intra-Party Conflict and the Future of Nigerian Democracy: Examining the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2018-12-04T04:21:57+00:00 AMINU YAHAYA MUHAMMAD
This study is an analysis of the nature and pattern of intra-party conflict in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic with specific reference to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Intra-party conflict has been the norm in Nigerian politics leading to crises, setback and failure of many parties to forge ahead for proper democratisation in Nigeria including the ruling parties in many instances. The problem is the way in which intra-party conflict is becoming the bane of democratisation and good governance in Nigeria for many decades and despite the previous experiences, the phenomenon continued unabated. The study investigated the new dimension of intra-party conflict in Nigeria taking the All Progressives Congress as the case study. The study used a qualitative method of data collection and analysis. Primary and secondary sources of data were used. The primary data involved an in-depth interview with some selected informants from the relevant institutions and agencies related to the APC and the crises such as the national party executives, senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and academicians that are experts in the area of study. The secondary sources include books, journals, newspapers, internets and other documented materials. The data obtained were discussed using content analysis where thematic analytical interpretations were used in the discussions. The research discovered that, the intra-party conflict under the APC has taken a new dimension where the members of the ruling party constituted an opposition and a stumbling block for the party’s progress and governance. The work recommends that intra-party conflict of APC and other Nigerian political parties can be resolved through constitutional reforms, institutionalisation of party ideology and principles and strict sanctions from the national leaders of the party.
2018-12-04T04:21:57+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## The Practice of Instructional Leadership among Headmasters in The Southern Region of Malaysia 2018-12-04T04:21:29+00:00 Roslizam Hassan Jamilah Ahmad Yusof Boon
This study aims to identify the level of instructional leadership practice among headmasters in three states in the Southern Region of Malaysia which are Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor. The 2019 General Election is anticipated to be an election of greater interest and challenges accruing to the permutation of many factors that are manifesting currently within the political arena of Nigerian politics. This paper is a succinct examination of the predictive analysis of the prospects and the challenges that the 2019 General Election might produce. The problem is that despite the significant improvement recorded in the 2015 General Election, there are still challenges that are yet to be addressed in the electoral process. The paper is a descriptive and analytical work which relies on the use of secondary data such as books, journals and internet sources for data collection. The data collected was analysed using thematic analytical interpretations. The paper discovered that the 2019 General Election would be less challenging than the immediately previous one due to a weak opposition but some of the hitches that were encountered before might likely reoccur particularly the efficiency of the card readers and the violation of electoral regulations in addition to money politics. The paper recommends that the electoral body should re-strategised in making the smart card readers effective and the body needs to be vigilant in monitoring parties’ and candidates’ financial activities right from now in order to ensure compliance, transparency and a fair election.
2018-12-04T04:21:00+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## Parents’ Perceptions on Social Skills Functioning of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Preliminary Study 2018-12-04T04:20:32+00:00 Joanna Hie Ping Ting Kee Jiar Yeo
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is defined as a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects social communication, social interaction and sensory sensitivities. The results showed that academic press/emphasis (AP/AE) is determined by leadership style practices particularly COA except COE. Interestingly there is strong evidence that almost all English subject teachers from all three selected schools understudy did not exhibit COE leadership style compared to COA which was the most influential predictor. They might probably try to avoid in practicing COE leadership style as this would create reinforcement patterns among the students.
